As a Canadian in my first visit to Germany, I was curious as
to what the Mennonite were like in other country. Before I caem to Gemeindetag
I thought I was one of the only Canadians working as an Au-Pair in Germany,
but in no time I met many other North American Trainees and others who
were working under MCC. This was not only (encouraging) a great opportunity
to speak English, but also reassuring to know I wasn I was
surprised to feel so at home with more than 600 other people. One thing
I really enjoyed was the singing, it was amazing to hear everyone raise
their voices, both old and young to worship the Almighty God.
Another North American I talked to was also impressed with all the hard
work going on in Bosnia, and the ongoing commitement the Germans have in
that country.
I was so thrilled with the number of youth who attended and who were deeply
devoted to God and his ministry. The Play "irgendwas mit Jesus!?"
really was an eye-opener, it was interesting to see and hear how others
experienced God.
The youthprgram on Friday and Saturday was agreat opportunity for everyone
to get to know each other, it reminds me of the verse in Matt 20:18 "
Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I also." Overall my experience at Gemeindetag 97 was great. I would like to
thank all of those who put a lot of time and effort into the organization
of the entire weekend.
I look forward into meeting and seeing everyone again in Pfalz 2000!!
